Montauk 2011

Once again this year, we vacationed out in beautiful Montauk for our July 4th weekend. We spend five wonderful days with the kids and many friends. The weather was picture perfect except for one day of haze and a few sprinkles. The fireworks on July 4th were are beautiful as last year. We had an awesome room which was just steps from the beach. During the day, all of our friends and family relaxed on the beach while the kids dug HUGE holes in the sand or rode the waves on their boogie boards. In the evening, we sat on the beach toasting marshmallows for our famous S'mores (which were um, um good!!!). You just can't beat the laid back life out there in Montauk. The sky at night is filled with stars, some of which you feel like you can just reach up and grab! It's vacations like this that force you to sit back, relax and be thankful for all that we have. It was a wonderful time! I love you Pete and of course, my four amazing boys!!

It's hard to believe that eleven years ago tomorrow, June 14th, God blessed me with not one, but two beautiful baby boys! I want you both to know that you are the light in my life and I love you both so much! You make me proud to be your mom. You have both turned out to be handsome little men. I want you to always know that I will love and protect you and be there for you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BOYS!!!!

Let's Go YANKEES!!!

It's not often you get to take you kids to see a major league ball game, especially if your home team is the NEW YORK YANKEES!!! The cost is usually the deciding factor whether or not you watch the game from the comfort of your home or from the actual stadium. Well, let's just say that someone very special, my late Grandfather, made it possible for me to take my kids to a Yankee game with all the bells and whistles. It was the first time my boys have seen the new stadium and it was a GREAT day!!!! Jeter is now only 7 hits away from hitting 3000 and we got to see two of the hits that have gotten him ever closer. The weather cooperated and the boys, Pete and I had an amazing day together! To sweeten the pot, the Yankees won 9-1 against the Cleveland Indians!!! Thanks Grandpa! We love you and miss you even more!! xoxox

This past May, Pete and I took a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate his birthday! Little did I know how much fun it would be!!! Aside from taking in all of the sights, we rented a convertible mustang and drove to see the Hoover Dam. It was an amazing sight as you can imagine! We love spending our alone time together. I'm sorry that it's been awhile since I last updated my blog. Life has just passed us by these last few months. One of my dearest friends came to visit a few months ago. I have known Diane for almost 20 years and rarely get to see her as she lives in New Jersey, almost in PA as a matter of fact. Our children refer to each other as 'cousins' although they are not. Here are some pictures form their visit. Miss you all!!!

Again this year, Pete took me away for my birthday to Aruba. Can I just tell you how unbelievably awesome it is to turn another year older in THE most beautiful place on earth? We stayed at the same hotel as last year and had an amazing time together. I am so lucky to have a man like Pete in my life. You make my world so much brighter! We celebrated my birthday at a restaurant called "The Flying Fishbone". It is right on the beach overlooking the beautiful water. The food was excellent! To finish off our dinner, I was served a birthday dessert, complete with a warm brownie, caramel icecream and sparklers!! Here are some pictures of our trip..only 50 more weeks to go until we return!

Well, 2010 was a blur. It seems like yesterday we were ringing in the new year and saying goodbye to 2009. It is now 2011...1/11/11 to be exact. How cool is that? That in someway, has to be good luck! It was a quiet New Year's Eve. The boys were with their dad and I was home alone, snuggled up in bed reading my book. A book which I could NOT put down..."Firefly Lane" by Kristin Hannah...unbelievable book! Pete was working so I rang in the new year by myself. At the stroke of midnight, I was flooded with text messages and phone calls from the kids and of course Pete. My night was then complete.

We are awaiting our second major snowstorm of the season. We are expected to get anywhere from 12 - 24 inches. The weathermen are pretty unsure at the moment, what else is new? I am in panic mode though. Pete and I are leaving this coming Sunday, the 16th, for Aruba. It is my birthday present. He is soooo good to me. I am looking forward to spending some alone time together. It's not often that we get this time.

So, Happy New Year to my family and friends. May this year bring much happiness and prosperity. I will post some pictures of our trip when we return.

The week is beginning to wind down for me, although there is much left to do! Just finished planning the Christmas dinner menu and shopping list. It's kinda sad that Christmas will be over before we know it and then we will be looking forward to next year already. The boys are so excited they can't even stand it. One more day of school left until next year! So I am wishing all of my family and friends a very Merry Christmas. May the new year be filled with good health and much happiness. Remember to take a moment and reflect back on this year. Take a minute to be thankful for what we have right here in front of us. Here's to 2011, may it be another amazing year! Until then.....

This year I wanted our Christmas pictures to be updated. I packed the boys up and we went down into town to take a few pictures. While looking through the lens, I realized then just how fast they were growing up. How each has matured in the past year and how very handsome they are! Call me prejudice but they are!!! Pete and I had the honor of attending a friends wedding down in Fort Lauderdale at the end of October. Kevin was Pete's old partner in the city. We stayed right along A1A across the street from the beach. We spent 3 beautiful days in sunny Florida. The wedding was beautiful and the rain held off long enough that day to have the ceremony outside on the golf course. Had a blast! Congrats Stacey and Kevin! Many, many more!

On June 4th, 2010, I once again became an Aunt!!! Meghan Kathleen arrived a few days before her due date. We were all so thrilled! She is the youngest of three girls. Kasey is 12, Erin is 10 and little Meghan. She is now nearly 7 months old and is such a joy! When my Grandfather passed away in October, he gave us the greatest gift, even in death. My brother, sister-in-law Trisha and Meghan flew up to New York for the wake and funeral. Just being able to meet my niece for the first time and have her with us for a few short days, made the saddness that much easier to deal with. She has an infectious smile!!! We were able to grab a few photos of her sweet little smile!!! We love you and miss you all so very much!

It's been about 8 years now that I have been playing with some of THE most amazing women. We are affectionately known as "THE PINK LADIES". After a long, hot summer, we went undefeated for the season! It was onto the playoffs where we kicked some serious A$$! Each year I start to think that I am just getting too old to play because I am nearly crippled after first game of the season. But...how could I possibly quit on such an amazing bunch of girls? It's the only time that I get to be a sweaty ball player. Well, here's to next year ladies! Let's make 2011 our year again! See you all in the Spring!

It's Been Awhile....

wow...I cannot believe that I have not updated my blog since July. Let's see.....the end of the summer was uneventful. The boys finished camp and we started our back to school shopping. Nick has entered the 8th grade, Kevin is in 7th and the twins are in 5th grade. Where has the time gone? I can still remember the days of bottles and potty training. Seems so sad that they are all growing up and moving on.

In October I lost my grandfather. He was 91 years young. I miss him terribly and I am ashamed to admit that I have not gone back to the cemetery since his passing. It's still too difficult to go back there. I have made the decision that I am going to take the kids this coming Saturday and go visit him for Christmas. The boys took his passing hard, but I have to say I was so proud of the young gentlemen they were at the wake and funeral. Grandpa would have been so proud of them. This will be our first Christmas since I was a child without him....I can't even imagine it. He is in a better place now with my Grandmother who passes away when I was 7. They are finally spending Christmas together. That definitely brings me some comfort.

Thanksgiving was wonderful. We spent the day at Pete's sisters house and had a wonderful meal. Nadine always does such a beautiful job hosting. There were many laughs! Now to get ready for Christmas. I am done shopping and have started wrapping. The house looks and smells like Christmas.

Montauk 2010

Pete and I decided back in March that we wanted to go on a family vacation with the boys since we took our 'alone' vacation to Aruba. We booked a room out in Montauk for the July 4th weekend. It turned out to be the best vacation we have taken so far! We could not have asked for nicer weather. Beautiful blue sky during the day and a star filled sky at night. We had family and friends out to visit and just relaxed on the beach. Pete and the boys built a bonfire every night where we toasted our marshmallows and sat back and for the first time in a long time, enjoyed one another. We are excited about going back next year as we met some new friends who we plan on seeing again in the near future. Here are some photos of our trip!

So, my baby, my first born, my first bundle of joy turned 13 yesterday!!!!!! God do I feel old. Nicholas Vincent was born at 11:30 a.m. that joyous morning. I can remember being at my parents the night before having dinner. There was a beautiful full moon and my mom said something that was about to come true. She said babies are born when there is a full moon. I laughed if off and secretly thought to myself, wouldn't it be funny if it were tonight? Afterall, I was one day past my due date of June 19th. I was feeling quite large and was a bit scare of what was to come. We went home and I waddled into bed. At exactly 12:07 a.m. I felt it, the first of many contractions that were to come! I do not remember the drive to the hospital because I was in the most excruciating pain that no man could ever prepare you for! Later that morning, I witnessed the most amazing thing any woman could experience....the birth of my first child. I can remember holding him and feeling the warmth of his skin against my cheek. I can remember the smell of my newborn baby. I can remember the sheer joy and excitement of becoming a mom. It is now 13 years later and I have a teenager who is the epitome of a teenager....complete with eye rolling attitude! He is a good boy who loves life. Nicholas has been a blessing and I am looking forward to watching my little boy turn into a man. I love you Nick!!!

I don't even know where to begin to convey the love I have for my father. He is simply, my hero! He is my strength, my rock, my everything. My father has taught me about honesty, integrity and most of all, he has made me the person I am today. So, dad, I may not say it often enough, but I love you and I am the luckiest girl in the world to have had you as my father!! My babies turned 10 the other day....

It seems like yesterday when I was the mother of two very young children when I suspected that I was prego again. I thought to myself, yes, three children would be nice. I think I could handle three. I scheduled my OB appointment for a my first pre-natal visit. I remember sitting back on the exam table and my doctor at the time was doing the first sonogram to determine gestation. It was an internal sonogram...fun!! Dr. Jackson looked at me, then the screen and then back at me again and said, "I have to tell you something". At that moment, my heart sank cause I had a miscarriage a few years back that was absolutely devastating. She then turned the monitor toward me and said those magic words..."there are two babies!!" and I said "what?????!!!!!!" Yes, I was pregnant with TWINS!! Double the blessings!! My original due date was July 12, but John Anthony and Ryan Michael arrived on June 14th at 5:10 and 5:11 a.m. I am truly blessed to be the proud mother of four beautiful boys!!! I am in no way saying that life is easy, but I wouldn't have it any other way!! So to my sweet, sweet boys, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! You are finally in the double digits!!! I love you both very much and I am so proud of the little men you have become!!!!!! Keep reaching for the stars!!! xoxoxoxoxoxox

I am an Aunt Again!!

Meghan Kathleen was born on Friday, June 4th weighing in at 7 lbs, 1 ounce! She is the most beautiful baby! This is #3 for my brother and Trisha. They already have two amazing daughters who will be THE best big sisters. It's times like these that I miss my brother and his family more than words can express. When I got the news that Meghan arrived, I cried both tears of joy and sadness because I knew it would be a long time before I could hold her, kiss her, smell her and just get to know her....I am looking to book a flight some time in August to go visit the family. So, a huge congratulations to my brother and his amazing wife! I love you all and miss you more than you know!!!! Welcome Meghan Kathleen...you cousins in New York cannot wait to meet you!! xoxoxoxox

Sunday morning in Montauk

This past Sunday, Pete and I decided to drive out to Montauk for lunch and a day of relaxing by the beach. When we got out there however, the weather did not want to cooperate. So, we decided to have an early lunch at O'Murphy's. For those of you who have never been, O'Murphy's has the BEST mussels I have ever tasted!!! Seriously!!! They are that good...so good in fact that we drove 1 1/2 hours to get some! We walked the beach some and then we took the ferry over to shelter island and then hopped over to Greenport on the north fork. We ate Oysters on the half shell at Claudios..such a nice relaxing day with my honey!

April 23rd...John and Ryan took their belt tests. They are now officially Blue Belts!!! They did great! They knew all of their combinations and they even broke boards for their test. I have to say that they have the BEST karate instructors...Sensei Chris and Ryan....Thank you for everything! Here's to the upcoming competition in June...Go Shaolin!!!!!

Baseball Season 2010!!!

John, Ryan and Kevin are all playing baseball this year. They love it!!! Not to be bias or anything, but they are pretty darn good! John and Ryan play on the same team, the Dodgers, with the 9 year olds. Kevin, for the first time, wanted to play. He is on the Marlins, the 11 year old. Kevin would not let me take pictures of him....AT ALL...I guess he is just too 'cool' for that. On the other hand, here are some pictures of The Dodgers...who at this point in the season are in 2nd place!!

Back In October, Pete was involved, for the first time in his career, in a shooting. It was a very scary time for all of us, an emotional time for him. He and his partner came across an armed robbery. So as not to bore you with all the details, just know that he and his partner are ok. Both Pete and his partner were awarded "Cop of the Year" on March 24th. It was a beautiful church ceremony followed by the award ceremony. I am so proud of you Pete!!! Here are a few pictures from that day!

Lisa and I decided to get the cousins together for a day of fun! So, we took them bowling! What a great time we all had together. The boys just love their cousin Zach!! Can't wait to do it again!

At least twice a year, friends from high school try and get together for some drinks. I unfortunately, have missed the last two. So, when Robyn posted the new date, I promised I would not miss out again. The weather didn't really cooperate, as it has snowed earlier in the day. A few of us showed up, but it was still a damn good time! Here's to the next Mini Mac reunion!! I love you all!!!!!

Aruba baby!!!!!

I think I have THE best boyfriend EVER!!!! Pete and I were talking about taking a well deserved vacation. We went back and forth between Aruba, Dominican Republic, Key West...etc....finally we decided to go to Aruba. I have to tell you, it was absolutely beautiful!!! The best part was, we went for my birthday! How amazing that was, waking up in the most beautiful place on earth, on your birthday, with the most incredible man??? It was a week of total relaxation. We sat on the beach all day drinking our little fruity drinks....well, I did, Pete wouldn't be caught with anything fruity or colorful for that matter!! At night we ate at some amazing restaurants and walked the town. for my birthday, we had massages on the beach! We are already looking to book third week of January next year! Cannot wait to go back!

As always, it was a great holiday! There was some snow on the ground which definately made it feel like Christmas! The boys got everything they wanted, and then some! Nick's big gift this year was the ipod Touch. Kevin got the million piece lego set that he has been dreaming of and John and Ryan got their cell phones, finally! Santa (aka Pete) was very good to me too! I got the most beautiful Coach bag that I had my eye on, a gift certificate for a day at the spa and Ugg boots!! He is so good to me and the boys. We had Christmas dinner at our home, which included some well received guests....2 lb lobsters....one for each of us!!! Needless to say, it was the yummiest of dinners. Pete's mom, Ellie joined us and it made for a very relaxing day! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season!!

Wow....it has been awhile. September was my last post. Life just catches up with you sometimes, ya know? September came and when like a whirlwind. The kids started school, Halloween crept up on us and within a blink of an eye, it's March. Only 9 days until Spring finally arrives!! I am going to post pictures of the last few months...hopefully I won't let so much time go by next time!!

I just feel the need to write today...maybe to feel sorry for myself for just a minute. The last two days, Ryan has told me that he was having trouble closing his left eye. So, like any mom, I looked at it and didn't see anything unusual. Tuesday night, the boys were sitting around the dining room table playing Monopoly and I noticed that when Ryan smiled, only half of his mouth 'smiled'...when he crinkled his nose, only one nostril 'crinkled'...when he blinked, he was definately having trouble closing his eye. I jumped on the internet to look up Bell's Palsey. I made an appointment for the doctor for Wednesday and he confirmed that it was what I suspected. Why does this have to happed to us? I understand that this is most likely a temporary condition, temporary meaning this could last a few weeks or a year or two. WHY does my baby have to deal with this? He is loaded up on Prednisone, has to have drops put in his eyes every 2 hours, and he has to wear an eye patch all day and night for at least a few weeks. I just feel like crying. In fact, I did last night after they all went to sleep. I went in to check on the boys and there was Ryan, sleeping peacefully with the big patch on his face.

I do realize that things can alwasy be worse....thank God this is all we have to deal with but it is still frightening and he is still my baby!! I wish it were me...he was so upset to go to school today. He was afraid that the kids were going to make fun of him. He was afraid because he knows that the school nurse was going to have to give him his drops. I wish I could be there to do it for him...

I just needed to vent...I love my kids and it make me sad and angry when my little guys have to go thru anything like this....but it could always be worse.....

9/11...We Will Never Forget

It's hard to imagine that 8 years ago today, our world would be forever changed. So many things have changed since then and yet so many things have stayed the same. I can remember the absolute horror when we put the television on that fateful morning. My brother had called from Florida and asked us if we were watching.....I can't help but feel a bit helpless this morning. It's a day that we know will come around once a year and yet, it never gets any easier. I watched the news this morning and was reminded of the sobering realization that this will happen again...it is just a matter of time. I fear for myself, my children, my family and all Americans. My heart just breaks knowing there are families waking up this morning and re-living the deaths of their loved ones...I on the other hand was able to hold my babies and kiss them good morning. My heart breaks knowing that there are so many people hurting this morning...hell, everyday, over the loss that they have experienced. I don't even know how to put my own feelings into words. May God bless us all and especially those who lost so much on that day ...and for those who continue to give their lives for our country. We will never forget 9/11...it will be forever etched in our memories and our hearts....

Backpacks packed....check, Lunches made...check, School bus tires screeching 'round the corner....PRICELESS!!!!!

So, it's Wednesday, Sept 9th and it is the first day of school. My baby is now going to middle school!! His bus was scheduled for 7:12 a.m. but the school requested that he be at the bus stop by 7 a.m. to account for the new busing schedule. I told him that I would wait with him at the stop until the bus acutally arrived....but....NNNNOOOOOO! That was never going to happen...."But Nicholas" I said...."Just let me sit in the car across the street so that I know you got on safely" and again, I got a huge NNNNOOOOOO! With my sad look on my face, he relented and said "OK...as long as you don't look at me or wave goodbye to me"...."Deal" I said...and so, I sat down the block in my car wathching my 'baby' get on the bus for Middle School...where has the time gone? It feels like yesterday when we were walking him into pre-school with his little dinasour name tag that said "MY NAME IS NICHOLAS"....God do I feel old :( .........then it was time for the elementary school bus. This bus comes at a more decent hour of 8:50 a.m. I went to work a little late so that I could send my boys off with a warm mommy wave....and a small jig in the middle of the street...ha ha ha!!! Kevin is going into 6th grade and will be the kids who "rule the school" as I am told! John and Ryan are going into fourth grade. Needless to say, they were all very excited about today....Hope it's a great year boys!!

Last Sunday, Pete and I decided to take a ride out to Montauk..for two reasons...the waves were amazing compliments of Tropical storm/category 1 Hurricane Bill and we wanted to have lunch at O'Murphy's. For those of you who have never been, O'Murphy's is a small town bar right in the 'circle' of Montauk. They have THE BEST MUSSELS know to mankind! Words cannot even describe!! We enjoyed a few hours lounging on the beach, watching those beautiful waves under a blue sky. It was a great day, just being together.

Our friend Dan has been doing a lot of swimming this past summer...and I mean a lot!!! Back in July, he swam the 'cross bay swim' which was 5 miles!!! 5 miles!!! I can't even swim across my pool (cause I still have to hold my nose and all!!!) and he makes it look so easy. He does it all for charity! Dan asked Pete to help him this year by kayaking ahead of him as his 'spotter'...they did awesome together!!! Two weekends ago, Dan was in another swim down in Amityville. This was a two mile swim for Juvenile Diabetes. Pete joined him again and needless to say, they rocked!!! I brought the boys down to the beach that day and they were so excited to see both Pete and Dan approaching the finish line. I admire all of the people who participate in these events. Especially when it's for such an amazing cause!!!! So here's to Dan and Pete for giving their time for others!!! We will always be there to support you....just let us know the time and date and we will all be there to root you on!! I did take a few pictures of John and Ryan in the kayake and wearing Dan's swim cap, which by the way has it's 'place' on the hutch in the boys room!! Here is a video of Dan coming out of the water...it was hot and I am sure he was tired!! We are proud of the both of you!!!!!

Friday, August 14th, John and Ryan took their karate belt test. They did amazing and are now official Purple Belts!!!! I am so proud of you both!! Keep up the great work and before you know it, you will be taking your black belt test!

We just returned back from an amazing week in Orlando, Florida. Pete and I and the boys flew down last Tuesday where we were greeted by my brother and beautiful nieces at the airport. Funny cause Kasey had called us to say that they were not going to be able to come. I was upset, I have to admit, cause I have been waiting months to see the girls. When low and behold, I was bear hugged from behind by Erin...or "E" as she likes to call herself! What a great suprise!!! We spent the days at the beautiful pool where the kids literally swam for hours on end! The six of them (my four boys and Kevin's two girls) would stroll up to the pool bar and order their 'virgin' pina coladas daily...it was hysterical to watch. We all went to Disney on Thursday and lucked out with the weather. We did get the usual afternoon thunderstorms, but we only waited I would say 40 mins for the longest ride. The lines were not terrible. The kids had an absolute ball together. On Wednesday night, Pete and I put the kids (all 6) in camp at the hotel. There they ate pizza and icecream, decorated a t-shirt with fabric markers and stencils. They played miniature golf, rode the bicycles built for 8 and then finished off the night with a movie and some basketball. What a great experience for all of them!

Saturday rolled around way too fast....too depressing to even think that we were going home. How could 5 days have passed so quickly? We spent Saturday at Kevin and Trisha's house..kids were in the pool for the last time....I was already getting misty eyed. When it was time to say goodbye, Nicholas was the first to 'lose it'. Then they rest fell into place...Kasey was next I think, then Ryan, and so on and so on.....what an amazing time they all had spent together. It is always hard leaving my brother and his family. We don't get to see each other nearly as much as I would like. At least we have these memories...memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you Pete for taking us on this trip...I will never forget it! You are one in a million!!!!!

Today was the last day of camp. I was dreading this afternoon more than I actually realized. I went to see the boys last 'show' that they put on every Friday. The prepare all week with songs and dances to the theme for the week. As I sat there smiling at all the hard work the children put into it, I realized that I would have to prepare myself for the sadness. My boys are quite sentimental and I knew they were going to take it hard. John was the first to cry...sobbing was more like it. He fell into the arms of "The Big Unit"..a councelor named Mike who the boys just adored. They idolized him. Mike came walking over with John slumped over his shoulder...tears running down his face. Ryan stood near by...silently...taking in everything around him. I just stood there, looked at him and said "it's ok...." and his little brown eyes welled up with tears. He then began to cry. It was then Kevin's turn I thought...I looked over and he was holding up pretty well. He was actually getting the cell phone numbers of the councelors he loves so dearly. His favorite, Jenna, was in Florida this week, so Kevin's tears came last week and my little boy was heartbroken. His first real boyhood crush. I just broke my heart. I then turned and looked at Nicholas who held it together fine....until....we...got...into...the...car. His bottom lip started to quiver and he turned his head to look out the window of the car. He didn't need to say anything, I knew what he was thinking. It was the first time in a long time that you could hear a pin drop in that car. There were only sounds of sniffling and little hands wiping away the tears.

I have to say that I know the pain they are feeling...it wasn't too long ago that I was saying goodbye to friends in camp or at school...you sort of ached for a long time after that. I don't know why I am writing this....maybe it's a way for me to let my feelings go...I ache for my boys today...one of the many things a parent does for their kids.

Here's to another amazing summer at Saint Patrick's camp...to all the councelors, we love you! You will be forever apart of our lives. Each and everyone of you have left footprints in our hearts. You are all truly wonderful people!!!

Saint Patrick's Camp - BEST CAMP EVER!!!

I have to say, without hesitation, that St. Patricks' camp has got to be THE best camp around! This is the second year that the boys have attended and they just LOVE IT!!! This, unfortunately, is their last week. Five weeks has just flown by! They have done so many things here at camp. Each week they go on two trips, some of which consist of: Sailor's Haven (Fire Island), splish splash, adventure land, Atlantis Marine world and of course, the Canoe Trip down the Nissequogue River. The boys have made some new friends again this year. This amazing camp season could not be possible without the UNBELIEVABLE camp councelors!!!! You are all truly one-of--kind!!! The boys took my camera to camp last week and took some pictures to remember this summer....here are just a few!

Karate Awards!!

On Saturday, John & Ryan competed in their first karate competition. There were two different events in which they both participated. The first was combinations and blocks where they have to demonstrate the techniques they have learned in class. The second event was sparring where the boys wear the head gear and gloves. They score points by hitting the opponent in the head, chest or stomach. Each round they need to get three points. John placed first in sparring and third in combinations and Ryan placed first in combinations and third in sparring. They did awesome!!! They each won two medals along with trophies! We are so proud of you!! Congratulations!!!!!!

Montauk with the boys

Pete and I took the boys to Montauk this past weekend. It was Pete's vacation and we decided to take the boys out of school Thursday and Friday and then spend the rest of the week alone out in Montauk. Well, unfortunately, the weather didn't exactly cooperate on the days we had the boys out. It was cold, cloudy, nasty and even rained :( bummer.....there's not much to do in Montauk when it rains. So....we watched some TV, came up with creative games to play etc...On Thursday, the boys did get to play out on the beach. Pete helped them dig huge holes and took long walks together. On Thursday, there was a glimmer of 'sun' at the very end of the day and we actually dug our hole on the beach and Pete and the boys set up the bon-fire. We all sat together and toasted marshmallows and made our Smores - YUM!!! Nothing like melted chocolate on a crispy graham cracker with toasted marshmallows....it was a magical night...the boys all sat around with their big sticks giggling at how burnt they could get their marshmallows. I sat back in silence and watched my boys enjoy themselves, having fun and actually 'talking' with each other. It was an awesome night! The boys went home and then Pete and I enjoyed the rest of the weekend together. We spent all day Saturday on the beach enjoying the sun that finally decided to show it's face. Had dinner at Gosman's which I think is a bit over rated. Nevertheless, we just enjoyed being in the moment and being together. Thanks Pete for an amazing weekend. You mean everything to me!!

Yesterday I was sitting with Ryan studying his science words when Kevin arrived at the front door. "MOM!!!! Look what I found!!!!"...I jumped out of my chair to see him standing at the front door with a dog...yes, a dog...that he found running through our neighborhood. "Can we keep him??? PPPPLLLLEEEAAAASSSEEEE!!!!!!" After about a 1/2 hour of being on the phone to locate the owner, I had to run to get Nicholas from a friends house. We took the dog in the car with us for a ride. He was the cutest, most cuddly little dog. He is a mini-pincher..who won't grow to be any bigger than the size that he is...that little dog, who by the way the kids had already named "Dozer" actually fell asleep on Kevin's lap! When we returned home a couple of minutes later, the owner was waiting at the house. Needless to say, he was grateful as he had only brought the dog home the day before!! The kids were heartbroken that we had to give him back. They were already fighting over whose room "Dozer" was going to be sleeping in! All is well that ends well....we are going to "LOOK" next weekend at the dog shelter in Smithtown...just to "SEE" what kinds of dogs are there.....wish me luck!!!!!!

Well, it finally happened, at the age of 41, I FINALLY went to my first Yankee game! Pete suprised me with tickets for the May 6th game against Tampa Bay. He is sooo good to me!! We sat in section 320a..right behind home plate and up one section. So close in fact that you just wanted to reach out and grab...well, you know what I mean!! The stadium is just beautiful and Pete and I had an amazing time! Here are some pictures....

Yesterday, I believe we hit a record of 88 degrees here in New York. The kids actually went swimming in our friends pool...yes, swimming in April. It certainly felt more like the middle of August. We were all sitting around Mike and Annie's pool, eating, drinking and being merry...the kids had a blast swimming and playing horseshoes with Pete and Terry. It was a great day and here are the pictures to prove it!

Florida Vacation!!

It was a cold 32 degrees here when Pete and I left for our vacation. We were on the 6:20 a.m. flight out of Islip headed to sunny Orlando!! When we touched down in Florida, it was about 8:50 a.m. - a little overcast, but by the time we got our car, the sun had come out and it was shorts weather!!! We had the most amazing time together! We did think about the kids, often, and felt somewhat guilty that we were in Disney and they were home. We are now planning a trip this coming May or August to go back down to enjoy it all 'together'. I was able to see my brother, Trisha and of course, the girls!! Pete and I enjoyed spending time at our beautiful hotel, downtown Disney, City Walk and of course the highlight, Universal. That evening, 2/14, in Universal, we celebrated Mardi Gras. The show was amazing!! There were the most magnificent floats and beads were flying!!! Between my brother and Pete catching the most, I was draped in a sea of beads!! Trisha was bartending right next to us so as you can imagine, we had a very good night!!! Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons put on a great concert and we all danced and sang!! But as they say, all good things must come to an end....sadly, we left on Sunday to return home. We went from 80 degrees back to the cold NY weather...Thanks Pete for such a great time! I just loved spending time with you!!! And again, a special thanks to Mom and Dad for watching the boys for us...we could not have done it without you!!!

Just felt like writing a thank you to my parents who have been there for me more than they can imagine. Tomorrow, Pete and I are leaving for Florida. Shayna is a Purple Belt!!!

A big congratulations to our friend Shayna....she is now a purple belt in karate!!! Shayna is our friend who got both John and Ryan interested in karate. When the test was given last month, Shayna was in....Aruba! She was given the test last night and we were all there to cheer her on! John and Ryan even got to participate in the testing! We are so proud of you!!! You go girl!!!

New York State Tests

For those of you who may not know, the children have to take the standardized NYS tests. This year, Kevin had to take what they call the Social Studies DBQ test. There are four levels in which you will score. Level 1 and 2 which is below average and average. Then there is level 3 which is average/slightly above average and then there is level 4 which is above average...It is a huge accomplishment to achieve this level. Well, we received Kevin's grade in the mail last week and he scored an 89 on the test which places him in Level 4!!!!! We are all so proud of you Kevin!!! You studied so hard in school and it paid off!!! Great job!!! Love you!!!

Friday night, John and Ryan tested for their yellow belts. They have been taking karate now for three months and the big night had finally arrived! They did so well and we were all so proud of them! Another snowy birthday!

Just a few pictures of the boys having fun outside in the snow. We got another 3 inches or so over the weekend and into Monday. It was the pretty, powdery stuff...just floated to the ground. Pete was over for my birthday and we were having some fun outside with the boys. Actually, Nick and Kevin had been outside for awhile making snowballs that they put into a cooler so that they would be ready for Pete when he arrived! They must have had 25 snowballs ready for the 'assault'. For those of you who don't know, Pete is like one of the 'kids'...he loves to roll around in the snow with the boys. Mom and dad came over and we all had a nice dinner. Happy birthday to me!! The big '41' - I am now officially IN my forties...I am going down swinging!! I swear I am...ah...it's not that bad. I am in a great place in my life right now. It can only get better from here. Pete bought me the most beautiful roses as well as a gift certificate to my favorite nail salon. He and Nick both 'chipped in' for it. Enjoy some of the pictures we took yesterday, including my beautiful bouquet!!!

Well, we finally got our first 'significant' snow storm of the season! It was on a Friday, so naturally schools let out early and we geared up for the fun task of shoveling out when all was said and done! They boys were so excited! When woke the next morning, we had about 6 inches on the ground and the digging out began! The boys built a fort out front as it was the best packing snow! John and Ryan went around to all the neighbors and without even asking! They actually made a couple of bucks! It will be nice to have a white Christmas!

Bogart's Vacation....

For those of you who do not know, Bogart is my parents dog. He is the sweetest little black dog. His nickname is 'Bogie' for short. Well, nanny and pop-pop are vacationing in Florida this week and we have the pleasure of having him sleep over our house. We woke up Saturday morning to our first snow fall. There was only about 3 inches on the ground, but still beautiful. I woke up early that morning, poured myself a cup of hot coffee, turned the tree lights on and sat there in silence. Yes, silence!!! The boys were all still asleep and I took full advantage of the peace and sat and watched the big, fluffy flakes fall. Cannot believe that Christmas is only 16 days away....in case I don't get a chance to post before then...I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years!

Sometimes we forget how beautiful our surroundings are...just the other day, the boys and I were leaving nanny's house and we came across some of our feathered friends. Nanny has duck food and if you are very quiet and move slowly, they will come right up to you. You don't realize how beautiful they are up close. The colors in their wings and their faces is beautiful!

A Happy belated Halloween to everyone! It was the perfect day to trick-or-treat...it was warm and sunny and the kids had a great time. I took the boys back to the 'old neighborhood' where they saw all their old friends. Mark and the neighbors created the hay ride again which the kids look forward to every year! John was dressed as batman, Ryan was the joker, Kevin was an army soldier and Nick...well let's just say, he was dressed as Miley Cyrus. He made such a cute little girl! Hope everyone had a great day and got lots of candy!!

Karate Kids!!

John and Ryan have been begging me to let them join karate. I was always reluctant because I thought they would only be running around the house 'karate chopping' everything in site. Well, was I wrong. My friend Annie introduced me to friends of hers...Sensei Chris and Sensei Ryan. They told me to bring the kids down for a two weeks free trial. They absolutely loved it! They are learning not only karate, but dicipline as well. The boys will be participating in a competition on Nov 16th...will let you know how it goes! I only have one picture of them so far, but I promise I will post more soon.

Halloween Parade in St. James

After a cold and windy start to the weekend, Sunday turned out to be picture perfect!!! The sun was out and it was almost 60 degrees! The boys were asked to march in a local parade down in St. James with their karate class. We all had so much fun! John and Ryan dressed as .... you guessed it... karate kids. Their friend Shayna was a vampire and Nick and Kevin just went along for the ride. We went back to our friend Annie's house for some football and dinner. It was a great day!!!

This past Saturday, Angela came to visit the boys. We were hoping for a somewhat warm and sunny day, but instead it was cool, cloudy and very windy! We spent a few hours together and caught up on the kids, work and just life in general. Angela has all the good pictures and when I get them, I will post more here....I did however get some cute shots of Daniel and Alyssa. We went to the park and the kids seemed to enjoy the near hurricane winds!! It was a nice afternoon spent together!

Heather had suprised me about a week before that her and Jim were expecting their first child. How exciting!!! It was really hard for Heather to get Liz and I together to share the news, so Heather and I went to a jewelery party that Liz was having...it was there that Heather broke the exciting news....hope you can hear the video, there was a lot of back ground noise. Watch Liz's eyes...they tell all!!!!! We are so excited to be 'aunts' again!! We love you Heather and that baby bump as well!!!

Our visit to Montefiore Children's Hospital

I am thankful to say that our trip on Friday to the cardiologist went very well. John saw the cardiac electrophysiologist, Dr. Pass. After another EKG, the doctor determined that although John still has the condition known as WPW, he felt that we did not have to take any immediate action at this time. When John turns 10 however, he will be hospitalized for the cardiac cath procedure. At that time, they will insert a cath up into his heart to determine if they need to proceed with the 'oblation' of the cardiac impulse. They feel more comfortable doing this at the age of 10 as his heart will be slightly larger and he would tolerate the procedure much better. We left the doctors office feeling more comfortable than when we arrived. John has been cleared for all sports and gym. Thanks for all of the prayers and phone calls....John definately has an angel looking down on him!

My Little Trooper!!

As some of you may know, when John was born they detected a congenital heart defect known as Valvar Pulmonic Stenosis and WPW. He gets extremely rapid heartbeats. We saw his cardiologist in the beginning of September and they ran an EKG as well as a sonogram to determine whether or not his condition had improved. Based on their findings, they scheduled John to come back for a stress test. He was so excited that he was going to be walking/running on the treadmill at the doctors office. Based on the results from the appointment yesterday, the doctor is still a bit concerned that the WPW is still causing John some problems. We are now scheduled to see a specialist next Friday. John wanted me to take pictures of him yesterday as Dr. Schiff referred to him as "The Purple Power Ranger!!" He was such a trooper and we are very proud of him! Please keep us in your prayers and will keep you updated once we see the doctor next week. We are going to Children's Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx.

September 21st - Kevin turned 10 years old!! Can you believe it? It feels like yesterday when the doctor said "It's A Boy"....how time flies! We celebrated last night with cake at our new home...Nanny came over for some cake and this coming Sunday we are having a barbecue to celebrate again! Happy Birthday my beautiful boy!!!

I was driving to work this morning listening to all the radio stations that were playing tributes to all the Americans who were killed 7 years ago today on 9/11. Tears came to my eyes when they started to play "America the Beautiful" and I thought about how lucky I am to be alive. I then started to think about what this world will be like when my boys are grown and have families of their own. It is sad to think about all the families that are remembering the ones they lost but will never be forgotten. All of the policemen and firemen who gave their lives....our world was to never be the same. I just felt the need to write something, anything about this very sad day. We should never, ever forget 9/11 and how quickly life can change.

Well, what can I say? After being on this awesome team for almost 6 years...and after making it to the playoffs all 6 years...WE FINALLY KICKED SOME WELL DESERVED SOFTBALL ASS! We finally won the playoffs! I am so proud to be on this amazing team with these amazing women! We did it girls!!!! We are now known officially as the "Pink Ladies" and we have a new title to defend next year!! Congrats on a great season and we could not have done it without our coach Rudy! We love ya! Saturday night, we had our friend Shayna sleep over...we turned the living room into a sea of matresses, blankets and pillows! The kids had fun being together and watching movies. They were all sound asleep by 11:00 p.m. much to my amazement!!

A Day of Crabbing

Yesterday, I took the boys down to Patchogue to go crabbing with some good friends. The boys were so excited as they had never been crabbing before...as it turns out, the crabs did not cooperate! There were only two caught but none by the Caltabiano crew! It was warm and windy and such a beautiful afternoon. We had wine and cheese at the dock and just sat and enjoyed each others company. We then headed to a friends house for a small barbecue. It was a great day spent with my boys. They enjoyed it so much that I think I am going to venture back to the dock one night this week with chicken in hand to see if we can catch us some dinner!!

We were all pregnant with our 'firsts'..the three of us have been through many ups and downs in each others lives...too many to list here. Our Little Tinkerbelle

It has been a very sad 24 hours in our house...Tinkerbelle, our little black cat, had not been herself these past few days. She was drinking lots of water and wasn't coming out from under the bed. When I got home from work yesterday, she was in the downstairs bathroom just lying on the floor. I knew in my heart that something was very wrong. The kids finally fell asleep and I brought Tinkerbelle back upstairs. She was weak and could barely walk without falling down. I went to sleep with a heavy heart because I knew that in the morning I would have to break the news to the boys. When I woke this morning, she was having trouble breathing. Mark and I and the kids took her to the Commack animal hospital where they broke the news. They did not expect her to make it through the day. The boys were absolutely heartbroken! They cried so many tears. The doctor was a sweetheart and gave us the opportunity to say good bye to her in private. They each took a turn hugging and kissing her and telling her how much they loved her. She looked up at them as if she knew what each was saying. It was one of those moments you dread as a parent. She is at peace now...we love you Tinkerbelle!!!!!!!

It was a Tuesday afternoon....got home from work, picked the boys up from camp and thought ...hum...what could we do? The weather had been so hot and today it was finally a little cooler. So...we hopped in the car, went through the drive through and got ourselves a huge bucket of fried chicken, some drinks and headed down to Sunken Meadow beach...blanket and towels in tow of course!!! What a great time we had...it was crowded, even late in the day, but we all sat on our big blanket and talked about what each had done that day. Can you believe, there was no fighting, just awesome conversation with my boys. As I sit back and listen to each of them, I am so proud at the beautiful boys they have become. I just love them so much!

June 24th...I cannot believe that my baby (he would kill me if he heard me call him that!) is graduating elementary school today! It was a bitter sweet day for me. I feel so old...my little boy is growing up so fast! Nick had a great time at the Pines with many wonderful teachers to help him through his journey! We will miss the Pines, but here we come middle school!!

The kids participate in field games, barbecues, ice cream and the best of all...the dancing with the DJ. The PTA does a great job in getting all the children, teachers and parents involved. I know that I am late in wishing all my mommy friends and family a Happy Mother's Day. We spent the day at mom's house barbecuing..the boys had a great time as usual. The day started off beautiful. The sun was out and it was warm. By late afternoon, the sun went in, the wind whipped up and it got bbbbrrrrr....cold! Felt more like Fall than Spring.
